Photography by World Red Eye To celebrate Bal Harbour’s 50th anniversary, “Fashion Project” developed FP04: The Anniversary. The exhibition will be running until January 20th, 2016 and is made up of collections curated by Judith Clark. The collection will consist of “fifty years in fashion history from 1965, when Bal Harbour Shops launched, to the present, taking its cue from the unique incorporation of landscape into the design of the retail center.” The finale of FP04: The Anniversary will be taking place over the course of January 28th-31st with a four-day film festival, “50 + 50: A Century of Fashion.” The films were curated by Tom Gunning, professor of art history and cinema at the University of Chicago, and by Marketa Uhlirova, director of Fashion in Film, a research and education project based at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Day of Indulgence: Celebrating Bal Harbour Shops’ 50th Anniversary

By Gisel Habibnejad Photography by World Red Eye Bal Harbour became a fashion staple in Miami when it first opened in 1965. Ever since, Miamians of the last half century have flocked to buy the latest fashion trends and classic pieces—many of which have remained in our wardrobe all these years. Bal Harbour Shops houses 100 designer boutiques and two of the most luxurious department stores: Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. The open-air shopping space was officially recognized by the world in 2012 when it topped “the list as the world’s most productive shopping center, based on sales per square foot, according to data compiled by the International Council of Shopping Centers.” Under the care of the Whitman Family, three generations have remained at the forefront of Miami’s premier and luxury retail space.  In efforts to celebrate its big 50, Bal Harbour Shops gifted Miami’s elite with a Day of Indulgence. Guests enjoyed lunch and a day filled with personalized pampering, such as makeup sessions with GLAMSQUAD; a brow treatment, false lash application or a mini oxygen blast with GEE Beauty; and acupuncture ear bead treatments with Dr. Ronel Corbin. On the fashion spectrum, a garment fitting with Phat Buddha’s designer Alissa Benishai; a handmade hat from Eugenia Kim; and Miu Miu sunglasses fitted by Designer Eyes. Lastly, guests received personalized photos courtesy of Photo&Go, an exclusive bracelet by Chanel Bal Harbour Shops, and a personalized gift bag. Big Bag Theory provided the leather pouch turned tote which served as the gift bag for guests. Inside, attendees found a candle from Dyptique, an oxygen facial from GEE Beauty, a leather pouch with surprise inside by VINCE, $200 store credit from Sara Colombo Nest Casa, gift card for four pints of customized ice cream from eCreamery (they also personalized Stanley Whitman’s favorite flavor for his 97th birthday!), apparel by Wildfox, five fitness classes to FlyWheel, a fitness class to Barry’s Bootcamp, movies passes to Ipic, and many others. Notable attendees included: Blaine Trump, Gigi Whitman, Sarah Harrelson (Editor in Chief of Bal Harbour Magazine), Cheryl Stephenson (Marketing Director of Bal Harbour Shops), Chef Ingrid Hoffman, Susie Wahab, Pablo De Ritis (Executive Vice President of FAENA Rose), Silvia Cubina (of Bass Museum of Arts), Ana Hughes (of Vogue Mexico), Lisa Petrillo (CBS Reporter), Renee Bargh (of EXTRA), and Oribe Canales. Village of Merrick Park Kicked off Christmas with Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

By Zachary Devita Illuminated with colorful bulbs, children wearing reindeer antlers and the echoing sounds of holiday music, the Village of Merrick Park kicked off Christmas in South Florida with their Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Hosted by former Miami Heat player Shane Battier and the Battier Take Charge Foundation, the night included performances by Coral Gables Senior High School, the Miami Royal Ballet and even a special visit from jolly old Saint Nick. Shane and his wife, Heidi, established the Battier Take Charge Foundation around six years ago and have been an integral and popular part of the Miami and Coral Gables community. “I’m a proud Miamian. I live here locally in Coral Gables and we’ve established roots here. This is home, so, I think it’s the responsibility of not just me, but everybody, to be a part of their community. To do what they can to make it better,” shares the former Heat player. When asked about the Christmas Wonderland the Village put on, Shane said, “This is a fun celebratory event…when I was asked to lead the tree lighting celebration, I took it as a huge honor!” The Battier Take Charge Foundation mission revolves around helping troubled youth by providing the necessary tools and resources to gain a good education and develop into effective leaders in society. “When I made it to the NBA, when I made it big, I felt like it was my duty to be able to afford access and opportunity to those who needed it.” This is just one of the many events the foundation is spearheading. Throughout the event, the crowd was able to see glimpses of the different outlets Merrick Park has to offer. The shopping center is home to such names as Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom and one of Coral Gables best restaurants Yardhouse. Despite the fact that the temperature was in the upper 80s, the atmosphere resembled that of any child’s North Pole. GOGO Benefit Concert: A Performance Dedicated to a Hopeful Future

By Michèle Bigler Guitars over Guns, better known as GOGO, is a praiseworthy organization that caters to at-risk children by providing them with after-school jam sessions, instruments and musical mentors, ultimately aiming at steering them away from gangs, guns and the like. The founder is local musician and Spam All Stars band member, Chad Bernstein, also crowned one of CNN’s heroes. A recent visit to one of the afternoon sessions at North Miami Middle School gave us insight into the inner workings of the exemplary foundation and its hands-on tactics which evidently produce direct results. The North Miami Middle School students can choose between rap, vocal, piano, guitar and the trumpet. They have ready mentors that coach them through the process and even encourage exploration between the instruments. One of the students, Jeremiah was taking his hand at the trombone and when asked why he had chosen the instrument he replied, “I wanted to try something new and different. I’ve already played all of the other instruments.” The curiosity that Jeremiah exuded clearly demonstrates that the program is working. Witnessing the students first hand only drew an inverted picture of the musician and his fruition from the core. One can truly observe how it all begins with practice and dedication. Every musician commences by repeatedly playing the same three notes until they reach perfection. These values translate to everyday life and establish a sense of perseverance and purpose in the students.  Xavier Gustave was welcoming with inquisitiveness and made everyone feel right at home. Later on, we were able to observe him flawlessly rap the words to his favorite Eminem song “I love the way you lie.” Afterwards, the ladies in vocal gleefully confirmed their dreams of becoming singers. There was a harmony in the room that is rarely seen in classrooms. Kids of all ages proved to be working together. Although the noise was standard for a middle school classroom, the pupils swiftly quieted down and paid close attention to Gene Gaylor’s lead. This is a program guided by gifted and passionate musicians looking to give our youth the opportunities that they should all have access to, it is a verifiable and zestful project worthy of the community’s support.  GOGO will be hosting a benefit concert entitled “Choose your Sound” at The Fillmore on Saturday, November 21, 2015 featuring local bands Locos por Juana and Tony Succar, hosted by NBC 6’s Roxanne Vargas. The concert is your chance to have a direct effect on our community and the future of South Florida’s students.  For more information on GOGO, please visit www.guitarsoverguns.org

Sparkle & Shine Darling Opens in Miami Beach

By Justina Coronel Photography by April Belle Adrienne Bosh’s new boutique, Sparkle and Shine Darling, is like walking into every girl’s ultimate dream of glitter, glitz, glamour, and more. At 1665 Alton Road, Miami Beach, this new location is an event space and a lifestyle boutique as well. With gold accents and pops of pink dispersed everywhere, the store has the perfect touch of elegance and fun all dolled up into one. Adrienne came up with the idea after a birthday getaway with her girlfriends to Paris that her husband, Chris, arranged. Soaking up all the energy of the City of Lights, dressing up from head to toe, and being absolutely fabulous with her girlfriends, led to her inspiration of creating an environment that could empower every woman to feel fabulous, as well. The boutique has the lavish variety of accessories from clothing to purses to notebooks. Not only that, there is a backroom that can host events and special occasions. For now, it is decorated in the cutest tea party theme but it can be transformed into several other classy and glamorous options. Also, in the back, there will always be a photo booth to laugh and enjoy memories together. Adrienne wanted to create this concept in order for guests to enjoy and celebrate life because let’s face it, life is a big celebration. So pop the champagne, throw colorful confetti, and enjoy this new fabulous store that Adrienne has flourished. Sparkle and Shine Darling officially opens to the public on Monday, November 16th.
