Within the past several years the area has become the “it” location for businesses and developers eager to set up shop on the banks of the historic Miami River. Luxury residential towers, ambitious commercial developments, retail stores, and pedestrian focused projects are all on the horizon. “The revitalization of the Miami River District closes a complete lifestyle loop by creating a city within a city,” said Horacio Stuart Aguirre, the volunteer Miami River Commission Chairman. Aguirre and Brett Bibeau, Managing Director at the Miami River Commission, have shared that the commission is collaborating with the Nina Torres Fine Art Gallery to place monumental sculptures along the river walk before the year ends. All of these projects and developments are just the beginning of the Miami River District’s transformation. Recently, the eyewear designers have been working together on a series of limited edition collections. For the third and final capsule the designers wanted to create frames that would showcase their individual creativity, design and would pay homage to their beloved cities, Los Angeles and Paris. The end result is two separate frames: The Thierry Lasry x Garrett Leight is a combination of Lasry’s D-frame design with a touch of Leight’s classic and retro influence. The second frame Garrett Leight x Thierry Lasry uses Leight’s rounded shape with Lasry’s layered details and removable clips, which gives these frames a futuristic feel. “Thierry and myself have always had a profound respect for each other’s originality,” says Leight. “We come from a similar background, in which we grew up in the business, and feel like we have really created our own paths. 11th Annual IRIE Weekend Recap

Photography by Omar Vega and Thaddeaus McAdams The annual IRIE Weekend took place from June 18th-20th and included a multitude of events and sponsors with one goal in common: to raise funds and awareness for great causes. One of them being the IRIE Foundation which provides at-risk youth with various programs to help them lead positive lives.  IRIE Weekend kicked-off with the #Inspire Kids Golf Clinic at the Miami Beach Golf Club with Austin Mahone as the special guest. Benefitting IRIE Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, The Motivational Edge and South Florida After School All Stars, the children supported by these extraordinary causes were also in attendance. The night concluded with a dinner honoring DJ IRIE by Merrill Lynch, and later with the Hublot VIP concert in which included performances by Natalie La Rose and Wyclef Jean.  The JEEP 11th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament took place on Friday with Target On The Green Tent. The long list of celebrity golfers included Anthony Mackie, Omar Benson Miller, Alonzo Mourning, and Reggie Bush. The day ended with Stoli Elit at LIV Nightclub, with a performance by Jermaine Dupri to cap the night off.  On Saturday, a special appearance was made by Pitbull at the IRIE Weekend BBQ Beach Bash, presented by Mountain Dew. The event consisted of delicious treats made by Chef G. Garvin and cocktails by Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey. The wonderful weekend came to a close with DJ IRIE’s birthday hosted by Timbaland and presented by Beck’s with music by Lil Jon.  With all the fantastic events and celebrity appearances, it’s still safe to say the best part about IRIE Weekend was raising over $50,000 in proceeds. At the top of their preparations is the planning for parking, traffic and transportation. To accommodate the boat show’s guests and exhibitors, the NMMA, along with the City of Miami, has created a plan that spans from water taxis (which can transport up to 25,000 people to the event each day) to VIP and valet parking while strategically placing abundant public parking options throughout Miami and on Virginia Key. Furthermore, to ensure that the parking plan is full proof, the City of Miami hired Kimley Horn, a third party consultant, in order to provide a traffic study on the Rickenbacker Causeway. The study incorporates the importance of the Rickenbacker Causeway by minimizing the boat show’s effect on traffic, establishing an efficient transportation system that will help everyone throughout the five day-event. The plan was presented by the NMMA with the City of Miami to the Village of Key Biscayne. Top priorities of the plan includes: 10,000 parking spaces in downtown Miami, shuttle and water taxi services directly to the exhibition and water taxi or shuttle service to attendees who purchase tickets online in advance. “Transportation is a critical component of building a successful new show,” said Thom Dammrich, President of the NMMA. “As a result, we have created one of the most efficient transportation plans ever undertaken by NMMA.” The NMMA, as well as the City of Miami, will keep building and improving transportation in the future.
