Dsquared2 Opens in Bal Harbour

By Katie Jackson Popular Canadian brand Dsquared2 has finally opened their first boutique in Miami last week. Founded by Ontario-born twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten, Dsqaured2 provides a unique alternative to luxury. Combining their Canadian roots with superior Italian materials and craftsmanship, the brand is quickly expanding throughout the United States. After successfully opening flagship stores in New York and Los Angeles, Dsquared2 has made Miami their latest venture. Both Dean and Dan Caten, owners and creative directors of Dsqaured2, collaborated with Milan-based architectural firm Storage Associati to create an innovative design for the Miami boutique. Located in the prestigious shopping center of Bal Harbour, the store features over 2,000 square feet on the first floor alone, and contains stunning architectural detail. To pay tribute to their Canadian heritage, forests and nature are the underlying themes of the store’s interior. The dressing rooms are back dropped by illuminated imagery of Canadian forests, while ochre velvet armchairs are placed throughout the store. Outside, the boutique’s windows are framed with inserts of lark wood, creating a refined visual.                       The brothers are thrilled to bring Dsqaured2 to Miami. “We adore Miami, we visit there often to holiday and are inspired by the city and its people. That’s why opening our Dsquared2 store in Bal Harbour is such an important moment for us and our brand. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary. To be able to do so with our flagship in such an important luxury destination has been a long-held dream of ours”, said Dan and Dean Caten. The Bal Harbour location will carry both men’s and women’s ready to wear collections, in addition to fragrances, eyewear, and accessories. The boutique also offers an entire section dedicated to the beloved Italian-crafted shoes and handbags. Visit the Dsquared2 Boutique at 9700 Collins Ave,

The Most Memorable at SoBe WFF

By Nycole Sariol Was it the pulled pork sandwiches being doled out like hotcakes at Miami Smokers? Or was it Guy Fieri demonstrating how to make a mountain of legendary nachos? Perhaps it was Andrew Zimmern hitting a high note at Best of the Munchies; either way food enthusiasts of all shapes and sizes raced to the beach in droves for arguably the most coveted event South Beach has to offer: South Beach Wine and Food Festival 2015. With every event and party thrown, so came a celebrity chef attached to it. Like a true animal advocate, Rachael Ray somehow managed to flawlessly – and sanitarily – blend her two loves into one event for Yappie Hour at the Standard Hotel. Pooches and their proud owner were obliged to some delicious treats being passed about during the event. Emeril threw his yearly luau bash Art of Tiki on the Shore Club’s white sands, where Broken Shaker took home the night’s People’s Choice Award and people nibbled on small plates while rocking out to some killer live performances. But the heart of all of this year’s culinary undertakings rested firmly beneath some tents off of Ocean Boulevard. The Grand Tasting Village is the first thought that usually comes to mind when on talks South Beach Wine and Food Festival, and justifiably too. This year, the participating booths of local restaurants and alcohol venders organized themselves into hubs by city. The competition was stiff concerning the weekend’s winning booth, but the most memorable out of the dozens had to go to Miami Smokers for their pulled pork sandwiches: slow-cooked, juicy pork meat, shredded and smashed between a soft roll of Hawaiian bread with slices of pickled beets lending a bitter zest to the garlic-induced mojo consuming the pork. All tasty bites aside, what really left us star-struck at the tents were the celebrity chef demonstrations. We managed to catch chef Aaron Sanchez mid-whipping up authentic Mexican delicacies before witnessing the miracle of all things cheese sauces, chips, and “a mess of jalapeños” that came into fruition as a glorious mountain of nachos stacked up by everyone’s favorite spikey-haired blondie, Guy Fieri. Until next year, “eaties.” Photographed by Katrina McLaughlin

“Just Move” with 24 Hour Fitness

By Gisel Habibnejad Starting a new workout routine can be difficult and 24 Hour Fitness understands that. They have developed a new program, called Just Move, to encourage everyone to get up and move! Last week, 24 Hour Fitness clubs across the country hosted Zumba classes to celebrate and motivate people everywhere to start-up their daily exercise schedule now. They host monthly courses dedicated to show people that exercising can be fun and different. What else sets this gym apart from the others? The environment of friendly instructors and sense of community help gym-goers forget they are actually working out. They help find solutions according to your lifestyle to accommodate your fitness goals. No matter what, you can always find time to work on your fitness at this gym. We caught up with Lashaun Dale (Vice President, Group X, Creative, 24 Hour Fitness) to find out more about Just Move: MSM: What was the inspiration behind the Just Move movement? LD: We are excited to provide opportunities for celebrating creative expressions and a chance to ‘restart’ your commitment to health and fitness in a community setting with like-minded individuals. Our monthly events offer this environment and a variety of special activities and experiences to give our members new ideas to refresh their workout commitments. MSM: How will the Zumba classes help jumpstart the idea of a healthy, everyday workout? LD: Zumba is such a great program–and one of its signatures is that it is easily tailored for your fitness goals, but always a good sweat and a good time. One of the main reasons to try a Zumba class is for community. Research shows that having a network and reference group that supports the change you desire and believes in you is one of the most critical factors to achieving your goals. We also really love that Zumba celebrates and provides a chance for creative expression–which is truly one of the keys to a long term commitment to a fitness routine and healthy and fit life. MSM: What are some other ways 24 Hour Fitness can integrate exercise into anyone’s hectic day? LD: We offer a wide variety of classes and workouts, different settings, along with content that can inspire and instruct you as you move forward on your path.  We just need you to come through the door of our club. Then, we can guide and work with you to find the solution “that moves you” to become the best version of you that you desire. MSM: Do you have any advice for those who find it hard to begin a weekly workout schedule? LD:  To your point above, the hard part is actually taking the first step.  However, it is easier if you really think of and dream of the bigger reason behind your goal.  Change is ignited from within, from a desire to experience a different version of your life.  From there, anything is possible, if you’re ready for the challenge.  Our goal is to give you a map, a supportive community and informed solutions that will entertain and educate you along your way. MSM: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know about 24 Hour Fitness and Just Move? LD: Just Move is a signature event–one of many moments that happen every day at 24 Hour Fitness.  If you miss the event, don’t worry–pick a time that you CAN come to the club; grab a friend if you wish, and get in the door.  We will be ready to help you begin your fitness journey from there! So grab your favorite gym partner and head to the nearest 24 Hour Fitness to start your new daily routine with people who care and encourage a fit and friendly lifestyle for you! Sicilian Shrimp Risotto Recipe by Isa Souza

Sicilian Shrimp Risotto By Celebrity Chef Isa Souza For the risotto, the ingredients are: 1 Chopped white onion, 2 Cloves of garlic, 1 Sicilian lemon (juice, zest) 1 Glass of white wine, 1 Cup and ½ of arboreal rice, 2 Tablespoons of unsalted butter, Pepper, Salt, Olive Oil, Grated Parmesan cheese To prepare the shrimp sautéed in butter, you need: Prawns, Olive oil, 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 tablespoon of dehydrated garlic, Parsley and chives for taste Put about 2 liters of water to heat it up. Once hot, squeeze a whole lemon in it. (Do this by placing a hand underneath it, that filters the seeds). Then, throw the already squeezed lemon into the pan to heat it up as well. This water is used to hydrate the risotto. Heat the pan you will use to make the risotto over high heat. It can be done in any pot, but one that has the largest circumference is preferred for the risotto to spread across the surface. Once warm, lower the heat and place about three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Throw a tablespoon of unsalted butter into the pot. Before the butter has completely melted, add the two cloves of minced garlic. When the garlic starts to pop and is golden, throw the chopped onion. After the onion begins to fry, it’s time to add the rice (no need to wash it). Add salt and pepper for taste. It is essential to stir the risotto at all times. It should take 20-30 minutes to get ready. Also, remember to watch the heat and always keep it low. After you mix in the spices, throw a shot glass of white wine and continue stirring. Wine is important to open the rice fibers and leave the risotto with a better consistency. Now, add the zest of a lemon. When the rice begins to stick to the bottom of the pot, it is the right time to start adding the water. With a ladle, add the lemon water that has been previously heated. Pour the water gradually, covering all the rice, stirring slowly. A trick for the risotto is not to let it get fully cooked, but to a slightly firmer point. Remember, as it gets moistened, cooking continues even after turning off the heat, so the water should not dry completely. Test the seasoning and, if necessary, add more salt and pepper. The final part is to put butter and Parmesan cheese, but only do this before serving the dish. To prepare the shrimp, heat the frying pan, then put olive oil and a tablespoon of unsalted butter. After the butter melts completely, increase the heat and add the shrimp (preferably, fresh). Then season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and dried garlic. When it starts to pop, lower the heat and turn them aside in the pan. Be careful not to let it burn. Then, turn off the heat. Now it is ready. The cooking is very fast. To assemble the dish, place the risotto, sprinkle some lemon zest, and add the prawns. Then, season with chopped parsley and chives to taste. If you want to, you can also add a little olive oil over everything. Enjoy it with your favorite bottle of white wine.   For more of Isa’s recipes, visit www.isavidaysabor.com

American Red Cross Hosts “Girls’ Night Out” at Jimmy Choo

By Katie Jackson Last night, Miami women gathered at the Jimmy Choo in Merrick Park to shop for a cause. The American Red Cross hosted “Girls’ Night Out,” where attendees enjoyed complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while shopping for accessories to wear to the 33rd Annual Red Cross Ball this March. The ball is chaired by Marile and Jorge Luis Lopez and presented by FPL. A portion of the proceeds went to support the Red Cross’ local and national efforts. The American Red Cross, a nonprofit organization, provides shelters, feeds and offers emotional support to victims of disasters, and teaches important skills that save lives. A few attendees shared personal experiences with the Jimmy Choo shoppers, including Pamela Rauseo, who resuscitated her infant nephew on the side of a Miami highway by administering CPR she had learned from the Red Cross. “I was hoping for somebody else to save my nephew’s life, and that person didn’t come,” said Rauseo. “My nephew was already purple, limp, and unresponsive. By the grace of God I had remembered that I had learned how to perform CPR.” Rauseo’s story made headlines across the country, and she hopes that it will compel others to learn important life saving skills. “The lesson learned is that you need to get out there and get certified. You need to learn for your loved ones and for yourself,” said Rauseo.   For more information on the American Red Cross and the 33rd Annual Red Cross Ball, visit www.redcross.org/prepareflorida For more information on Jimmy Choo Shoes, please visit http://www.jimmychoo.com/
