Mandarin Oriental Miami Staycation

By Karen Huggins @glamandbrains   When it comes to where to stay in Miami, we are never out of options; whether it is a magnificent suite, an ocean view, a charming boutique hotel or an affordable romantic room. After weeks traveling for work, we decided to enjoy a staycation in Miami. We live in paradise and there are amazing hotel options to disconnect for the weekend. Ideally situated in Brickell Key, the luxurious Mandarin Oriental Hotel is an iconic beauty. The ocean and skyscraper-filled downtown adds to the scenic location of this legendary hotel.   A dream come true by choosing a stay in the magnificent suites at Mandarin Oriental Miami. Offering a selection of suites with all the extravagant hotel services in privacy and intimacy, this is what ideal staycations are made of. A dinner at La Mar by Gaston Acurio was the best way to start the weekend. The Peruvian cuisine and the ocean view dining alfresco is the best plan in Brickell area. After a great dinner and pisco sours at La Mar, we did a stop at the bar. Ending the night indulging in an exquisite glass of something bubbly was a great idea. The bartender did a couple of amazing drinks for us, the ultimate luxurious cosmopolitan experience. Waking up in the comfort of the king bed at the Junior suite is the perfect way to start the day. Heading to La Mar for a big brunch was the icing on the cake. The quality of the ingredients and the menu is impressive. Superb brunch! Time to relax under the palm trees sipping a cocktail and enjoying Brickell views! Love the Mandarin Oriental sand area, best place to enjoy a “Dolce far niente” moment. The cherry at the top, the Spa treatments. The Spa is an oriental oasis where you can get the best views to the ocean while you enjoy a magnificent massage at one of the spa suites.

Paris Travel Guide 2020

By Karen Huggins / @karenhuggins_blog Traveling to Paris is always a special experience and if you are traveling during Paris Fashion Week you have to do it French style. It’s a fun time to visit the city of lights if you love people-watching and feel sense of fashion in the air. I created this guide with things to do during this unique week; must-go places to “be part of the scene”: Where to stay The first time I traveled to Paris all my friends recommended hotels like Hotel Crillon, Ritz Paris and Le Bristol. They are historic luxury hotels and the epitome of Parisian style. For Paris Fashion Week I was traveling with a friend @vanessarosetilley and we selected this time a gorgeous boutique hotel, Lumen Paris Louvre, because of the location (superb, one block from Place Vendome and Louvre Museum) and details (they offer a different experience taking care of the customers with Hermes beauty products, Nespresso Machine in the rooms and special towels for makeup). Every day the breakfast is served at the hotel restaurant, intimate setting in the heart of Paris with a sunny terrace on warm days, and the glass canopy during the fall and winter. Lovely experience. For lunch/Dinner, Chef Akira Sugiura offers his delicious seasonal French-Italian-Japanese fusion cuisine. The matcha green tea tiramisu is a must. The room’s decoration is so chic and modern, the best part: the breathtaking views in the heart of Paris’s 1st arrondissement! Best option for a Truly Parisian Experience. Superb 🙂 Hotel Lumen Paris Louvre https://hotel-lumenparis.com/ Breakfast Ritz Paris: upscale experience at the beautiful terrace. You will feel like royalty. Popular with celebrities. Hotel Le Bristol: Café Antonia offers a spontaneous side of Parisian life, where you can enjoy casual and elegant breakfast. Lunch Le Girafe: modern seafood menu and best option to enjoy amazing views of the Eiffel Tower. Oursin: New Jacquemus restaurant in Paris, Jacquemus, the fashion designer, teamed up with Kaspia to open his restaurant on the last floor of Galeries Lafayette Champs Elysées. A travel to the Mediterranean feeling Jacquemus design vibes. Hotel Costes: the legendary restaurant and bar are the places to see and to be seen. One of the top spots for locating high profile celebrities in Paris (Beyoncé, Jay Z, Mariah Carey, David & Victoria Bekham…). Tea Time Le Meurice: prepare to be dazzled by the master pastry chef Cédric Grolet (awarded for Best Pastry Chef in the World in 2018). You have to try his sculpted fruits and revisited pastries. Four Seasons George V: a fairy tale experience if you want to feel like a princess/prince. A sophisticated beautiful room and amazing tea time. Dinner Loulou: restaurant at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the heart of the Palais du Louvre. I love the intimate and sexy atmosphere of the restaurant. Balagan Paris: stylish cocktails and Mediterranean/Israel food with sexy atmosphere. New gem in town. Shopping Le Bon Marche: my favorite department store, founded in 1838. The most prestigious brands. Museum Visiting Louvre museum is always an experience, I try to do it every time I go to Paris. For Fashion lovers, you will enjoy Louis Vuitton Foundation and Musee Yves Saint Laurent Paris.

Viva Italia! Miami Fashion Influencer Karen Huggins and her dog Teddy ? explores Italy ??

My husband and I along with our Teddy ? spent fifteen days admiring the beauty of Italy experiencing different places including Lake Como, Venice, Sardinia and Milan. It gives me great pleasure to share with MSM’s reader’s my experiences and photos along the way ??? Our first stop was Lake Como, one of the most picturesque places in Italy with Victorian Gardens and lake shore romantic restaurants. I felt like part of a painting. Amazing place to relax and enjoy local food at many restaurants and farms. Next stop, Venice. This was our first time in this romantic city and it did not disappoint. It is incredible when you see that the streets are canals. Taking a gondola ride and getting lost in the little alleys is a MUST. After a romantic visit to Venice, Sardinia (Costa Smeralda, North of the island) was the next stop. Sardinia is known for beautiful beaches, exclusive hotels, celebrities and shopping for the best in fashion brands; The Island blends the sophistication of Italy and beach lifestyle. The landscape is exotic with wild vegetation. It is paradise! I really recommend renting a boat for a day and enjoy ing the beaches that can only be accessed by boat. The last place we visited was Milan. It is a small city where streets are like fashion runways. If you love Fashion this is the place! Amazing Designer boutiques and beautiful places to have coffee and dinner. A couple of pictures of the trip and outfits … Follow me on Instagram!  @karenhuggins_blog

Travel Talk with Lea Black

If Miami had a queen, it would be Lea Black. Smart, regal, powerful, classy and (luckily we live in America) stylish! Our favorite renaissance woman shines with IQ and EQ – so obviously we cared for her take on traveling and caught up with her just before she took off on a trip to LA … Lea Black:  Travel is usually stressful for most people. Some people love the travel part and others just love the getting there part. I’m the just get there girl. The airports, airplanes, preparation, scheduling, packing, carting the luggage around part is not something I enjoy, in fact I dread it.  But what is more exciting than being somewhere fabulous on a trip, especially a luxury trip? So, for me I like to keep it simple and basic. Travel light. Take things that are easily interchangeable, mix and match, comfortable yet chic. Items that don’t need a lot of fuss, that would be the ironing or steaming thing.  So here’s my plan… For clothes, a little black dress, a pair of black slacks, a pair of jeans, some casually elegant tops and shoes that will go with any of it, like a pair of basic pumps for night, platforms for day and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. If you have a basic blazer that goes with everything that’s an easy upgrade from a casual look, especially when you add the jewelry and a scarf. Add your undies and pj’s and you’re all set.  Depending on the length of travel, I may take a couple of extra slacks or tops, but always things that I can mix and match which will make for several outfits. Pack a few scarfs that go with everything, a day handbag and a night handbag, and maybe a clutch. A gorgeous scarf worn in an elegant style will make any outfit highly styled. Sometimes I take or wear a belt.  For accessories, sunglasses, perhaps a hat that packs well and the entire wardrobe will fit in a carry bag. The night hand bag will fit in the day bag and I carry that on the plane in my tote bag along with any cash or jewelry and identification. If traveling internationally convert a few dollars into local currency in advance so when you arrive you have cab fare, tipping or any miscellaneous items you might want to pick up on the way to the hotel.  Add a stunning pair of sunglasses and you’re all set.  Don’t laugh, but if I’ve used items I know I won’t use again for the duration, like things that need cleaning or items I’ve purchased along the way, I fold/ pack them nicely and put in a small box I have the concierge at the hotel provide when I check in and the day before I leave I have my pre paid ground Fedex label ready to put on the box and drop it off at the concierge, usually to arrive about two days after I’m home. This lightens my return luggage and allows a little extra space for any last minute purchases.  I’ve found if I roll items verses fold them in my carry on, they’re far less wrinkled and usually don’t require much steaming. But if they do, the quick easy remedy is to put on a clothes hanger and hang in the bathroom and turn on the hot water in the shower and the wrinkles steam right out. For jewelry, and yes, I’m an addict. I only take the Fine jewelry that I can wear unless it’s a long trip. And if I do take a few extra small pieces they are usually safety pinned inside my bra or on my person, (I have been known to wear two watches at once on a plane, hidden under long sleeves or a necklace and pearls, hidden under a scarf). But be aware of what might set the security alarm off and if a concern put in a small bag inside your handbag and as soon as I get through security, I head to the restroom with my secret jewelry plan. My jewelry is safer on  me than in my handbag. And if I have to exit in a hurry, I won’t need to try to grab my jewelry while exiting the plane. In addition I usually pack a few pieces of fashion jewelry, depending where I’m going and length of trip I may just wear or carry mostly fashion/ costume pieces. Earrings, necklace or pearls and cuff, is all you need if you wear a ring and keep it on. Never ever take off a ring to wash your hands. Only take it off to put away or to clean.  And the second I get to the hotel- I lock my good pieces in the room safe unless I’m wearing them. When I book my hotel, I require three things: a no smoking room, a tub, and a secure safe. Other than that I just try to go with the flow.  Cosmetics and toiletries;  I have pre packed at all times in a small clear bag the basics, a new unwrapped tooth brush and tooth paste. My daily skin care routine that is about a three – minute regime a night and a one-two minute regime every morning. I of course use the LeaBlackBeauty facial wash every morning and every night. Followed by the LeaBlack serum day and night. I use the LeaBlack Intensive Moisturizer Lotion under my make up in the morning and the Lea Black Beauty Intensive Moisture Creme at night. This keeps my skin completely hydrated and keeps my skin and pores clean. To help keep the pores small and unclogged and my skin buffed and with a glow, I use the LeaBlackBeauty Exfoliator. This is my Miracle Secret that I use two to three times a week to scrub off the old cells and deep cleanse the pores. That’s my daily skincare regime quick and easy – 5

Sweet Escape Pick : Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club, Bermuda

By Nadja Atwal Bermuda is the oldest self-governing British Overseas territory, yet all you need to know is that is has dreamy beaches, lovely locals and short direct flights. The New Yorkers made it a favorite sweet escape many moons ago, but hey, they need the great beaches while sticking to their their “time is money” mantra  (New Yorkers reach Bermuda in just 2hours). Now for us sun-and-beach  spoiled Miami folks, one may wonder why should we bother to hop over there? The answer is: cause it’s different, cause it’s charming, cause it’s inspiring, cause it’s relaxing, cause it’s genuine, cause it’s not cheap but delivers a lot bang for your hard earned buck. It’s simply heavenly. I loved my trip so much that I created a collage from my best photos I took there and printed it on canvas. The piece of personal art filled with vivid memories  prominently hangs in our beach themed bedroom.   The Hamilton Princess is Grand Dame of Bermuda hotels with a very long, impressive list of events and guest. Queens and kings resided here and we too felt like royalty the minute we checked in. Gorgeous, art-filled interior is paired with a staff that shines with genuine warm smiles and the willingness to help you any way they possibly can. We recommend getting one of the rooms with a private patio that leads you to the (very) green lawn with a picturesque Marina front.  My two young sons would run out every morning and enjoy the thick juicy grass under their feet… The older one would pick flowers for me –  a habit I had to put to an end abruptly. After a family breakfast on our patio – we variated between ordering room service and items we bought at the supermarket around the corner  –  we would take a quick dip in the refreshing infinity pool, then I would throw in a gym visit or a round of tennis, get dressed, pack the beach bag and swing by the wonderful hotel boutique that will seduce anyone into wearing Bermudas and straw hats. Then we would get on the hotel shuttle to the beach. Usually the word “ beach shuttle” creates no excitement on my end, but as I got on that cute little bus with the fellow hotel guests, I decided to simply focus on the views I could gather along the way. I was not disappointed. I saw a love fest of colors, unique architecture, an abundance of gorgeous flowers and trees and beach views that I had never even dreamt about. As a result I would look forward to this shuttle ride every day. Our private beach was simply…well, heavenly,… only this Man-O-War warning sign at the entrance dampened my enthusiasm for a minute. But those unfriendly jellyfish don’t show up that often and thankfully I came with my Sea Safe lotion (a sun protection that causes jellyfish to really dislike you and turn the other way). The sand was as they say…fine and pink….and never too hot. I walked barefoot to my lounge chair…taking my time, since my feet were happy. Once I settled in, I could not wait to get into the water though. The sea was clear and very salty – and… full of life! Little fish were my steady companion. 20 feet into the very shallow water hammocks awaited us with a new form of relaxation experience. Just dreamy…. and fun too, when you play the game ‘who throws whom out of the hammock first into the water.’ The kids appreciate the little pirate themed playground on the beach as well. I loved it because it meant they could stay occupied by themselves in a fun, safe environment. This year the hotel launched it’s own kids club that provides tons of safe entertainment.   As for my own entertainment, I  would take one of those surf boards with a paddle attached and paddle around getting lost in this perfect scenery that almost seemed too good to be real. Or I would snorkel around gazing at the sea life. Then I’d pick one of the hammocks on the beach, listen to my favorite tune while tackling the latest novel by Paulo Coelho.   On top of that, great food was delivered  (I kept re-ordering the tasty chicken sandwich with Aioli and the tacos)  ….The atmosphere was peaceful and exuded total relaxation.   When the last shuttle bus arrived to pick us up, I left eager for more. It was a perfect day and turned into the perfect stay.    See you again soon, Princess ! www.thehamiltonprincess.com

Carnival Season is in Full Swing!

By Dawn Wilson Since Carnival is in full swing, we decided to mention the things that are commonly found at Carnival festivals in the Caribbean and in North America. J’Ouvert: This is the pre-carnival parade, which kicks off Carnival. Music: The music that is commonly played during the festival is Dancehall, Zouk and Calypso. Mas: This is the big parade that takes place on Carnival Tuesday! Top Caribbean Carnivals in the Caribbean: Cayman Islands (May) Although the Cayman Islands Carnival festival isn’t as old as some of the others, it has become widely popular in a short amount of time. It began as a way to celebrate the history of its African residents, along with the mix of other cultures, who now call the Cayman Islands home. St. Vincent & The Grenadines (June/July) What you can expect to see when you attend here is steel pan performers, J’Ouvert (pre-carnival party parade), a beauty pageant, and more. The dancing is infectious, so make sure you get plenty of rest and bring comfortable shoes. There is a good chance that other partiers won’t let you leave, you’ll be dancing until the sun comes up. Top Caribbean Carnivals in North America: Toronto (July) This is said to be the largest of its kind in North America. It attracts over a million visitors yearly. Like the festivals held in the Caribbean islands, you can still expect to see band performances, extravagant parades, interesting costumes, lots of dancing and music. Miami (October) If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do during Columbus Day weekend, stay in Miami for our annual Caribbean Carnival festival, One Carnival. It is a celebration of the Caribbean culture, art heritage and traditions. There are masquerade balls, parades and plenty of cuisine represented by the many islands of the Caribbean.

5 of the Most Inspiring European Hotels

By Nadja Atwal What better to do in the new travel year than discovering a new European city or revisiting a city and falling in love with it all over again by exploring new sites and places there? Yes, but it all starts with picking the right hotel. With these unique hotels, we feel right away a bit more alive, happy and inspired to discover more… 1. The Propeller Island Hotel, Berlin Have you ever slept in a flying bed? Or in a lion cage? Lars Stroschen, a top German artist who is making waves with his talent around the globe, makes it possible and enjoyable for you – unless you suffer from claustrophobia and book the crypt room where the beds are coffins – no, I’m not joking. In his Propeller Island Hotel, 30 totally unique rooms range from interesting to simply outrageous (like the upside down room) and make for a trip you will always remember. The website of the hotel is worth a visit with photos of each room ready for reviewing. Want to bet you will have a hard picking just one favorite? For more information, please visit http://www.propeller-island.de/english/2/6/ 2. May Fair Hotel, London London is always calling and the May Fair Hotel may be the answer to all that a distinguished traveler could ask for. It instantly makes you say “wow” when you enter. The elegant modern interior, the sleek spacious bar and restaurant where at lunch time almost every man is dressed in a Bond-like suit and the Cigar Room where both gorgeous men and women enjoy their Monte Christo equally. The rooms and suites bedazzle you with seductive, rich colors plus high-end woods and crafting. Last but not least: there is a casino! The Palm Beach Casino is tucked away on the lobby level. Elegant and just big enough – with all you need for your own “Casino Royal” experience. For more information, please visit http://www.themayfairhotel.co.uk 3. Jaz in the City Hotel, Amsterdam Everyone loves Amsterdam. And the brand new Jaz in the City Hotel is one more reason to love it. Check-in and checkout can conveniently be done via smartphone (the room key is also obsolete); your phone can handle it all – safe and fast. The perfect mix of fashion and music meet coziness makes each room your wannabe home. Gorgeous wall paintings, perfect lighting, and the most comfortable bedding that makes you want to stay in bed all day. Since we all like to stay in shape while traveling but don’t necessarily want to leave the room for it, the Jaz came up with a solution and created a simple but very effective Yoga kit for each room (fun alone or with your +1). For more information, please visit http://www.jaz-hotel.com/amsterdam 4. Saint James Hotel, Paris Private entrance with impeccable green lawns? Check. A chateau with all the romantic aspects we associate with it? Check. Gourmet restaurant? Check. Spacious rooms and a top-rated superb spa? You can have it all and yes, in Paris. Sounds too good to be true, but the gorgeous Saint James Hotel is that unique find. In addition, the 48 rooms of the only chateau-hotel in Paris seduce you with chic style and first class comfort. Romantic and sexy, just like Paris itself – guaranteed as the perfect place for creating memorable moments. For more information, please visit http://www.saint-james-paris.com/ 5. Abitart Hotel, Rome The saying goes “All roads lead to Rome…” Well, sooner or later you simply have to visit. And this city doesn’t just overwhelm you with an endless list of must-sees, it is also wooing you with too many gorgeous hotels to choose from. Yet, the Abitart Hotel sticks out, and already the name tells the story of the hotel’s philosophy: “Art should be part of our daily lives. Art nurtures the human spirit.” And the entire interior delivers accordingly, including and especially the rooms: every one is a piece of art in itself delivering both tranquility and inspiration. For more information, please visit http://www.abitarthotel.com/en
